Those who survive the First Marine Stage and who are not eliminated in the Brain Ship Stage would advance to the Second Adventure Stage (stylized 2nd ADVENTURE STAGE). While technically shorter than the First Marine Stage at only 6-7 obstacles, the time limit for the Second Adventure Stage was equal or higher in all three individual VIKING tournaments. For the first two tournaments, it consisted of six timed obstacles and one un-timed obstacle, the Heartbreaker; for the third tournament, the Heartbreaker was removed and relocated to the end of Final Viking. In all of these tournaments, the Second Adventure Stage worked as a means to weed out competitors from easily advancing to the Third Fantasy Stage (VIKING 2), or Final Viking (VIKING 1 and 3), being a direct upgrade to the challenges of the First Marine Stage, requiring a greater amount of strength and stamina for a single obstacle, or mental acuity in regards to whatever problem-based obstacles were within the course.
In the first tournament, everyone was eliminated by the Second Adventure Stage. In fact, only three people have ever cleared the Second Adventure Stage: Nagano Makoto, Minamide Kimihiro, and Maeda Sho. The latter two did not have to complete the Heartbreaker, having competed in VIKING 3.
